I asked if they had a spare part or a seized up machine in their backlog…and they didn’t. On to Craigslist, maybe there’s a cheap for-parts 66 that I could grab?Īnyway, long story short, I found another local sewing machine tinkerer who sells their refurbished machines on Craigslist. So I scoured eBay for a presser bar…and only found back-clampers, presumably because everyone for the last century or so had the same exact ideas as me about upgrading their machine. Even if I never use another foot on this machine, it would bother me that I don’t have the option to do so. Obtain a presser bar from a later 66 that already has a side clamping attachment, and swap it into the older machine. I found some references on the internet to someone selling adapters, but they were all years old and at least one person seemed sure they weren’t being sold any longer. I don’t have the capabilities to machine metal. Make/buy an adapter that allows standard low-shank feet. Either stick to the general purpose foot and use other machines for any specialized feet, or pay up for the somewhat-rare antique feet. I did some research and found three possible solutions: The biggest “gotcha” on this machine is that it uses a short-lived and obsolete presser foot attachment system, where the foot clamps to the back of the presser bar instead of the side like a regular low-shank machine.
